Building Projects

This long-awaited renovation will begin in the fall of 2026, with a temporary pop-up Library opening at 228 South Bridge Street on September 15th, to continue serving the community. This renovation follows the 2024 updates to the Children’s Room. The toys, interactive and learning play structures, will be returned following the renovation.

Other updates to the building include a dedicated Teen Room, 7 various sized study and collaboration rooms, a small conference room, a creative Maker Space, increased natural lighting, redesigned entry for pedestrian safety, and replacement of aging mechanical systems.

We are actively fundraising to support enhancements for the project, including furniture, technology, and other items outside the Library’s budget, to make the Elkton Branch Library a community destination, which is reimagined for the future. While many in our community consider the Perryville Branch a “new” Library, it opened over 15 years ago! As a sign of how well-loved it is, the branch needed to be updated, including new furniture, lighting and reconfiguring the layout to best accommodate the community’s use. We committed a substantial amount to purchase new furniture for the branch. The branch has recently re-opened to the public, please go explore!

We were thrilled to make a significant contribution to this innovative new outdoor learning and play space that opened in June! Children and families can explore percussion play instruments, play a game of checkers or chess, test their balance or attend a Library program. Funding for this project was made possible, in part, by the Institute for Museum and Library Services and the Maryland State Library. Grant #1366.

This branch opened in April 2021. We are proud to have led our first major campaign, “Raising the 21st Century Child,” to support enhancements for the entire second floor, which is dedicated to families, youth, and their development.

The North East Library ushers in a new level of access, experiences, and opportunities for the Cecil County community. With sweeping sight lines and sustainable features, the first floor welcomes the public to discover new books, enjoy the peace of reading and study rooms, and build skills in the Digital Media Lab. Business Librarians will support entrepreneurs in the Business Commons, complete with collaborative workspaces.
