Grand Opening for the new North East Branch Library and reveal of campaign donor wall. Formal Partnership with Community Connecting Us (Port Deposit Library closed).

Groundbreaking for the new North East Branch Library. Friends Foundation launches 3-year campaign “Raising the 21st Century Child”.

2017

Boards of the Friends of the Library and the Cecil County Public Library Foundation, Inc. decide to combine into the Friends Foundation of the Cecil County Public Library, Inc.

2016

Morgan Miller appointed Library Director. New Bookmobile purchased to expand outreach library services throughout the county.

2014

The Friends of the Library host the first Crab Crawl in downtown North East.

2013

Cecil County Library Trust changed its name to the Cecil County Public Library Foundation, Inc.

2008

New 15,100 square foot branch opened in Perryville.

2007

New 5,700 square foot branch opened in Chesapeake City.

2005

New Bookmobile purchased to provide outreach library services throughout the county.

2004

Port Deposit Library relocated to 13 S. Main Street.

2001

Denise Davis appointed Library Director.

1995

First Meeting of the Cecil County Library Trust with Founder, Doug Hill.

1995

Library began offering internet access in all branch libraries.

New 7,300 square foot branch opened in Rising Sun.

1994

Library began providing free dial up internet service to Cecil County residents via Sailor.

1991

New 2,800 square foot branch opened in North East. New 2,160 square foot branch opened in Cecilton.

1990

This Way to Books began mobile service to daycare homes.

1988

Library automated the checkout process for all branch libraries.

1987

New 25,000 square foot Library headquarters opened at 301 Newark Avenue, Elkton.

1986

Port Deposit joined CCPL. Mrs. Linda Brammer appointed Library Director.

1985

Mr. Gary Vaughan appointed Library Director.

1983

Perryville joined CCPL.

1974

“Gulliver” replaced Bertha and begins providing mobile service to the county. Miss Grace Slocum appointed Library Administrator.

1959

Cecilton joined CCPL.

1955

135 E. Main Street was purchased as the library building. Seven additions were made to the building during the years 1955-1973 to accommodate growth in services and collections.

1952

“Big Bertha” began providing bookmobile library service throughout Cecil County.

1951

Mrs. Dorothy Jefferson was appointed Library Administrator. North East joined CCPL.

1949

Friends of the Library were organized and established fund raising campaign to purchase 135 E. Main Street to house the library.

1947

Rising Sun joined CCPL. First library “bus” provided mobile services. Miss Ruth Miller, professional librarian, appointed by the Library Board to head the organization of the Cecil County Public Library (“CCPL”).

1945

Miss Olive Reynolds lead committee to get Cecil County to back a tax supported library. Cecil County allocated funds as required by Maryland Public Library Law of 1945. Library becomes entitled to State Aid.

1937

Cecil County Public Library organized under the leadership and support of Mr. Francis DuPont Thomson.

1924

Elkton Public Library organized by the Women’s Club of Elkton as a subscription library.
